74-Year-Old Man’s Hair Perming Made A Splash, “4 Yuan Only, Not Hot At All
Recently a video about hair perming in tong made a splash on line. The hero is a 74-year-old hairdresser Wang Weimei.
A red-hot tong dipped in the water then rolling on hair with a hissing noise, an unpleasant smell and a white smoke. We’re not talking about some kind of penalty, but a kind of traditional technique prevailed in the 1980s, called tongs.
In Jinshi County, Mianyang City, Wang Weimei, a 74-year-old man still inherits the traditional technique, and his business went great success in his neighborhood. Many people come here for a hair perming, but the only thing that he worries about is that nobody would love to do the job and the technique is going to die out.
Walking into the barber shop, the wooden chair, the wooden table and the lines of towel takes you back immediately to the scenes of 1980s. The Wang couple called out a greeting. Everything was settled down.
“Have you burned the iron?””Yes, the time is perfect.”Mrs. Wang fetch a burnt-red tong from a stove, and pass it to her husband Mr. Wang. Mr. Wang soaked it into water, and then rolled it over customer’s hair with a smell of burning coming out. The reporter asked what if the customer’s ear or head got burned by the tong, and Mr. Wang replied that he had never been able to burn any of his customers in his job career, not even himself.
Mr. Wang told everybody that you have to control the temperature of the tong, not too high or too low either. If the temperature is higher, the hair could be cut off. If the temperature is lower, and the hair could not be permed. To get a satisfied curly hair, Mrs. Wang has to pass a fresh burned tong to her husband to keep the temperature as usual.
A dozens of moves like that, and brushing, cutting and oil applying, and a fresh permed hair comes out.
Speaks to why he learn such a technique to perm hair, Mr. Wang said that the technique is natural, applying none of chemical things at all, and it does no harm to human body.
Besides, the permed haircut could maintain for at least 3 months, which is very permanent compared to normal hair perming.
Mr. Wang’s hair perming only charges for 4 yuan a time, which is so convenient and reasonable for customers.
However, the technique is going to die out because it takes great efforts to learn and practice but only returns a little benefit. Mr. Wang’s son didn’t do this job, for he doesn’t like the smell of it, so it is the same with Mr. Wang’s three pupils.
It’s very disappointed that such a cultural wealth is going to die out, but luckily Mr. Wang’s granddaughter-in-law would like to give it a try.
May god bless the Mr. Wang and the magic hair perming culture.
